Have not had a chance to use it yet but I like the way it balances with the reel I chose for it [Daiwa BG MQ] and I like the quality and action. Look forward to using it when weather warms a bit.

This spinning rod being a medium heavy power with 10 -50 lb line rating that is supposed to be designed for large fish which in turn means the need for a stronger, robust reel, IMO. This rod won't accomodate a reel foot to reel seat hood depth insertion of more than 1/4 inch with a 6000 size reel, 5/16 inch depth on a 5000 size reel and 3/8 inch depth with a 3000 size reel. The actual allowable depth inside the reel seat hood measures 3/8". All of my other low priced 7'6" to 8' medium heavy spinning rods of lower spec ratings accomodate the 6000 spinning reels with a 5/8" to 3/4" reel foot to reel seat hood insertion depth. A 3000 size reel fits fairly well but considering the specs and capability of this rod, that size reel is insufficient in strength and line capacity for this rod IMO. I wish they would've put reel seats on these to better accommodate the larger more appropriate spinning reels. These shallow insertion depths on the larger reels do not seem to be adequate for fighting large fish but I guess I'm gonna try it anyway. I love the look of these rods and I'm positive that they can land large catfish but I'm feeling insecure with the reel size accommodations.

This spinning rod is rated at medium heavy for 10 - 50 lb line and 1 -10 oz lure weight which in my estimation normally puts the spinning reel compatibility in the 5000 to 6000 size, more towards 6000 to get around 200 yards of 20- 25 lb mono capacity if choosing that type of line. This rod is designed to catch large fish with heavy line. I decided to go with a 6000 size reel due to the line rating of both this rod and the reel being 50 lbs and to be able to get around 200 yards of 20 - 25 lb mono on the reel if choosing to do so. The 6000 size reel ony has an insertion depth into the reel seat hoods of this rod 1/4 inch in the back and 5/16 in the front and that's only from tightening it significantly. I tried 2 different makes and models of 6000 size reels with the same results. I have 2 of these rods and they are both consistent with each other in this issue. I then tried a 5000 size reel and it only has an insertion depth of 5/16 inch in the back hood. I measured the actual allowable depth of the inside of the reel seat hood and it comes to only 3/8 inch. I tried a 3000 size reel just to see what would happen and it got a 3/8 inch insertion depth but this reel isn't within the higher specs of the line size and medium heavy design of this rod for catching large fish. To sum up my point of this, if you want moderately confident reel insertion depth into the reel seats of these spinning rods then you'd have to go with a small size reel that has lower power capability with low line yard capacity and strength rating from what the rod states it's capable of and designed for IMO. I do like the looks and feel of the rod and I do believe it will handle large fish but considering the shallow reel foot insertion depth, unless you want to adjust the foot size of a larger more suitable reel for this rod by sanding or filing down the reel feet to increase the insertion, then you won't get an appropriate reel size for what it's supposed to be designed for to properly fit this rod. All of my other lower priced medium heavy 7'6" to 8' spinning rods have at least a 5/8 to 3/4 inch insertion depth with a 6000 size spinning reel. I don't know why they designed this with smaller reel seats with the higher specs of this rod being what they are.
